Times to catch up. The Why and the new CD

T ime is the answer, not the question It has been a long time since my last update. It is not be cause of an unwillingness to chat to you guys out there, but my life has been in turmoil for the last two years. It is simply because we sometimes have to make decisions that just change your ability to do thing the way you planned them. I have an employer. That is kind-of radical, but an employer is not a bad thing to have when you want to reliably earn an income, and whether we like it or not - making music is just not a reliable income unless you are in the top ten of whatever you do. Taking photos can be a reliable income, but then you need to be able to invest enough time into it that you can get to the point where you actually do generate a large enough income to be able to do that, and the changes I made in November 2010 were of such a nature that I cannot reliably predict where I will be next week.

I am writing this update from Saudi Arabia.  I have been here for two weeks. My year looked as follow.

I flew to Riyadh in Saudi Arabia on the 3rd of January to kick off a project and do the architecture for the solution. I was here for two weeks, and then flew home where I spent one day before I flew to Amsterdam where I spent one week. I then flew home for two weeks and then back to Saudi Arabia where I spent two weeks. I am flying back home tomorrow where I will spend an unknown time (it could be one day or two weeks) before I go to Cape Town for a two month project where I will go home every second weekend. Maybe.

So how do you set up a photography gig or a Music gig when nothing makes sense from a location perspective?

Does working for a boss compromise your creative capability? Maybe. Even if you are working in the creative field, it can. Like the guys I saw drudging away for record companies hoping that one day they will get their break. I am lucky because I can do something completely else from what I love doing. That is how I think of it. That way the time I am spending on it is not diluted by having it influenced by somebody else's influence. Maybe that is just an excuse for being a drudge.

So what is so revolutionary then? I actually don't know, but something has to change. Maybe I just need to tune what I do. Like manage upwards or whatever the business buzzword inventors call it. Maybe I need to take on a different role in the company for who I am working. Maybe I must invent the next gizmo that changes the world.

Now for Something Completely different.

You will not believe it, but the CD from my now kind-of defunct band - NAAK - has been completed and is ready. I have only printed a limited number of copies, so if you are interested, drop me an email and let ke know. They will be R 100 per copy and I will let that include postage. I also still have a few copies of my previous cd "Murg" If you want both, you can have them for R 150 for the set. That is cheap :).
